Surviving the Summer Holidays (Without Losing Your Mind)

The summer holidays always sound like a great idea… until you’re in them. The novelty wears off quickly. Snacks disappear at record speed, routines go out the window, and “I’m bored” becomes the soundtrack of your day. And if you’re juggling work alongside it? Even harder. That’s exactly why I created something to help. Why…

Why I Created the Kids Chaos Journal

The Kids Chaos Journal was born out of a very real problem:

Kids don’t just need activities. They need something that holds their attention without constant input from you.

I wanted to create something that:

  • Keeps them busy (properly busy, not five minutes busy)
  • Encourages creativity and imagination
  • Gives them independence
  • And gives you a bit of breathing space

What Makes It Different

Along the way, kids are guided by Doodle the Duck, a playful companion who helps spark ideas, encourage creativity, and keep things fun from page to page.

One day it might be:

  • Drawing something ridiculous
  • Writing a story
  • Completing a random challenge

The next, it becomes:

  • A mini diary
  • A boredom-buster
  • Their own little creative space

It grows with them over the holidays, instead of being finished and forgotten.

The Bit That Matters Most

What I really cared about when creating this was the impact behind the scenes. Not just keeping kids occupied but helping them:

  • Build confidence
  • Use their imagination
  • Step away from screens (without it feeling like a punishment)

Because those are the things that actually make a difference.

Final Thoughts

There’s no perfect solution to six weeks of summer holidays. But there are things that make it easier.

The Kids Chaos Journal is one of those simple, low-effort wins that gives kids something to focus on—and gives you a bit of space back.

And honestly… that’s sometimes all you need.
